Understanding what you are paying for

The fee for a dental implant reflects far more than the small titanium post itself. It covers careful assessment, three-dimensional planning, the surgical stage, a custom-made crown and the reviews in between. At SW3 Dental a single implant with its crown starts from £2,750, and you receive a written, itemised quote before you commit to anything.

The building blocks of an implant fee

It can help to think of an implant fee as four linked stages. Each one has a purpose, and each should appear on any quote you are comparing.

What shapes the final figure

The extent of treatment

Replacing one tooth, a short span of teeth or a complete arch are very different undertakings, and the fee follows the scope.

From £2,750 per tooth

Bone volume

Where bone has receded after a tooth was lost, extra support may be needed. We explain the options, which may include grafting, and include it in your written quote.

Preparatory work

Removing a compromised tooth, treating gum inflammation or providing a temporary tooth for a visible area can form part of the plan.

Health and lifestyle

Smoking, diabetes and gum disease can influence healing and suitability. Dr Anti assesses these individually and discusses what they mean for you.

What your fee includes

  1. An unhurried consultation
Time to discuss your concerns and priorities, an examination, and an honest view of every suitable option, implant or otherwise.
  2. 3D CBCT planning
A cone beam scan reveals the bone in three dimensions, so the implant can be positioned with care and any need for additional support identified at the outset.
  3. The implant stage
Placed under local anaesthetic by Dr Anti, a general dentist with a special interest in implants. Sedation is not offered.
  4. Your finished crown
Once the implant has integrated with the bone, usually after a few months, a crown is crafted to match the colour and form of your neighbouring teeth.

Spreading the cost

0% finance through Tabeo is available, subject to status, allowing you to pay for treatment in monthly instalments rather than a single sum. We will explain the terms clearly and give you time to consider them; there is never any pressure to decide at your consultation.

An implant often costs more at the outset, while a bridge or denture is simpler to begin with. Which represents better value depends on your mouth, your priorities and how you weigh the long term, which is exactly what your consultation is for.

Myth or fact?

"The implant post is what you are mainly paying for." Myth. The post is one component. Planning, the surgical stage, the abutment, the crown and aftercare all form part of the fee.

"Two quotes with the same headline price are the same." Not necessarily. One may include the scan, temporary tooth and crown while another lists them separately, so compare itemised quotes side by side.

"Replacing a whole arch means paying for an implant per tooth." Myth. All-on-4 supports a full arch of teeth on four implants, which is why it is priced per arch, from £6,495.

"Once it is paid for, an implant needs no further care." Myth. Daily cleaning and regular check-ups keep the gum and bone around it healthy, much as they do for natural teeth.

Questions about implant fees

What does the £75 consultation cover?

A detailed conversation with Dr Anti, an examination of the area and an explanation of your options and their likely costs, so you can decide whether to proceed to planning.

Is the CBCT scan an extra charge?

Your scan and planning are set out in your itemised quote, so you can see exactly what each stage costs before treatment begins.

Why might two people pay different amounts for one implant?

Bone volume, the position of the tooth, whether a tooth must first be removed and whether a temporary is needed all vary from person to person.

Can the fee change once I have accepted my quote?

The quote reflects your scan and examination. Should anything unexpected arise, we would explain it and agree any change with you before continuing.

Are dental implants available on the NHS?

Very rarely. They are usually provided privately. We are happy to discuss other ways of replacing a tooth if an implant is not right for you.
