Upper and lower gaps closed with clear aligners

At a glance

  • In this case there were spaces between both the upper and lower teeth.
  • Clear aligners gradually brought the teeth together.
  • Closing spaces can help stop food getting caught between the teeth.
  • Gaps tend to reopen, so wearing retainers long term is essential.

Your questions answered

Why do gaps appear between teeth?

Common reasons include teeth that are small for the jaw, missing teeth, gum disease and tongue habits. The cause shapes how we treat it.

Will I need a fixed retainer after gap closure?

Often, yes. A thin wire bonded behind the teeth, together with a removable retainer at night, gives strong protection against the gaps reopening.

Can students have aligners at SW3 Dental?

Yes. Many of our aligner patients are students and young professionals, and you can spread the cost.
